2x Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' growing in a 9cm plant pots. 'Nigrescens' is an evergreen perennial grass, that has an ultimate height and ultimate spread of 0.1-0.5 metres. This grass forms dense tufts of arching, narrowly strap-shaped, leathery deep black leaves, that are 20-30cm in length. In the summer racemes of small purplish flowers, followed by glossy black berries are produced. The 'Nigrescens' is commonly known as the black dragon grass, or black mondo due to its glossy black leaves. This grass is hardy in most places throughout the UK, even in severe winters, and prefers well-drained, but moist soil. The black dragon grass is ideal for tropical plantings, border plantings, ground cover, and containers.
