1 x Hebe 'Midsummer Beauty' AGM, which is (approx) 6-8 inches in height growing in a 9cm pot. A Hebe 'Midsummer Beauty' is a large-sized evergreen shrub, which grows to around 2-2.5 metres in height, rounded in habit, with long narrow leaves which are tinged purple when young. It has large lilac-mauve flowers, fading to white, which are borne in racemes (flower clusters) to 20cm in length in summer and autumn. It is best grown in well-drained/moist soil, and has a ultimate spread of 1-1.5 metres and reaches its ultimate height in 5-10 years. This specimen has been known to flower well into December, and is often used as a focal point among tropical plantings. The 'Midsummer Beauty' creates a beautiful display in summer and autumn, as it provides a display of colour throughout both seasons, and is therefore a good pollinator. The 'Midsummer Beauty' can flower well into late December, when in a sheltered position. The second photograph shows a 'Midsummer Beauty' in flower on the 17/12/2014, in South West Wales- no other shrub plant of the same colour and size, flowers at this time of the year, within the UK. The Hebe 'Midsummer Beauty' is truly one of the best Hebes out there, if not one of the best shrubs, because it's easy to grow, and brings joy to the garden all year round.
